What should I expect?
Saturday Night Metta is a sixty minute practice period, with meditation, group and partner discussion:
- Opening
- A short emotional check-in with a partner (~3-6m)
- A short talk on the practice of love, loving-kindness, the brahmavihārās and their benefits (~3-6m)
- A guided loving kindness / metta meditation (~30m)
- A discussion period with the whole group or a partner—a time to share reports or questions about your experience and practice
- A short loving kindness meditation, sending love to specific people on our hearts (5m)
- Closing
If you’re new to the practice of love and loving kindness meditation, you can read the short blog post Practicing Love for some background about what metta is and how to do it. Alternatively, you can read my book, The Path of Love, which is longer but more comprehensive.
Saturday Night Metta events are recorded, but only audio is posted, and solely of the guided meditations. You can find the past recordings of the guided meditations here. You are welcome to join with your camera on or off, as you prefer.
